Exam Season Relief Not to Be Sniffed At

Here are some hints and tips to help prepare your young person:

  • Once aged 16 or over the NHS recognises people as able to consent to their own treatment. Education and awareness of their allergies and known the triggers should help them to manage the symptoms.
  • Encourage them to take control of their allergies – understand how to recognise and treat allergic reactions themselves.
  • Take their allergy medication, as recommended by GP or pharmacist – this is an essential part of managing allergies.
  • Help them to understand any changes or worsening of their condition, know when and where to seek help. This may be a phone call home for reassurance, visit to the pharmacy or GP.
  • Find the local pharmacies and medical services near to where they will be living.
  • Register them with a local GP – this is where they will be living most of the time now.
