Eczema

Atopic eczema (atopic dermatitis) covers a wide range of skin complaints which may affect someone who is genetically predisposed (atopic).

The symptoms of atopic eczema can vary according to the age of the sufferer. In 8 out of 10 cases, it develops before a child reaches the age of five; often before their first birthday. Approximately one in five children in the UK has atopic eczema. Symptoms can improve significantly, or even clear completely, as the child gets older. About half of all cases improve a lot by the time a child reaches 11 years. However, the condition can continue into adulthood and can sometimes develop for the first time in adults.1
