Heat rash or prickly heat is unfortunately a common allergic reaction for many people on their holidays. It is a form of chronic urticaria characterized by hives, redness and itchy skin rashes which appear in response to the physical stimulus of heat or sun exposure.
- Loosen or remove tight clothing as rashes tend to appear at points of pressure
- Try to cool the affected area - in the same way that warmth will trigger the problem a cool ambient temperature will help
- Avoid ointments or lotions since these can trap sweat and exacerbate the situation
- A suitable antihistamine may help
